Lessons Learned from a covid-19 construction project

As the COVID-19 pandemic began to sweep across the US last Spring, many regional medical systems realized the need for rapid addition of surge capacity for COVID-19 patient care.  This presentation will focus on the rapid design and construction of a 20 bed patient unit in Western Maryland.  In just over 4 months, this unit was designed and constructed, all while adapting to the operational challenges of the pandemic. The speed and success of the project required application of all the fundamentals of good project management, in addition to some innovative and less common methods to accelerate the project, preserve quality, and maintain efficient workflows while working remotely.
