Student Activities

ASHRAE Baltimore – Student Activities Committee

The ASHRAE Baltimore Student Activities Committee works to promote awareness and interest in engineering and the HVAC field among students of all ages.

Throughout the year, Student Activities works with teachers and students alike to provide resources for the development of young engineers.  We provide access to scholarships, design competitions, networking events, and support for engineering education and connections to real world experiences.

Our feature events for this year will be:

  • November 2019                      Elementary School Classroom Visit - “Leveraging Levers”
  • February 18th 2020                ASHRAE “Green Building” Program during Engineer’s Week (DiscoverE)
  • April 25th   2020                      ASHRAE High School Student Challenge

During National Engineer’s Week (DiscoverE), the Student Activities committee hosts a green building themed program for high school students. This program introduces students to career opportunities in engineering, provides insight into current trends in HVAC engineering, and engages students with a hands on engineering activity.

In the Spring, the committee hosts a high school design competition to challenge students with a “day in the life” scenario for HVAC engineering. Participants and competition winners are recognized at the May meeting of ASHRAE’s Baltimore chapter.

Our committee is always looking for opportunities to support interest in engineering and the HVAC industry.  At the college level, we support HVAC-related student projects, establish mentorships, and answer questions for students considering engineering paths and career options. At the K-12 level, we promote interest in the engineering field as a whole through classroom visits and introductory engineering activities.
