Student Activities
ASHRAE Baltimore – Student Activities Committee
The ASHRAE Baltimore Student Activities Committee works to promote awareness and interest in engineering and the HVAC field among students of all ages. Throughout the year, we work with teachers and students alike to provide resources for the development of young engineers. We provide access to scholarships, design competitions, networking events, and support for engineering education and connections to real world experiences.
ENGINEERS WEEK:
Each February, during DiscoverE National Engineer’s Week, the Student Activities committee teams up with the Engineering Society of Baltimore to host a green building themed program for high school students. This program introduces students to career opportunities in engineering, provides insight into current trends in HVAC engineering, and engages students with a hands on engineering activity.

STUDENT DESIGN CHALLENGE:
In the Spring, the committee hosts a high school design competition to challenge students with a “day in the life” scenario for HVAC engineering. Teams of 3–4 students tackle a real‑world HVAC design scenario, applying core engineering principles with guidance from industry professionals. Participants get hands‑on experience solving the same types of challenges faced by engineers in the Heating, Refrigeration, and Air‑Conditioning field.
The 2026 Student Design Challenge will be on March 28th at the BKM Office in Baltimore. Additionally, all participants are invited to attend our May meeting, where they will be recognized and competition winners earn prizes. Student Night is on May 7th 2026 at the Engineers Club. College‑bound participants are also encouraged to apply for ASHRAE scholarships supporting future studies in HVAC and engineering. We look forward to welcoming the next generation of problem‑solvers and innovators to the industry!
OPPORTUNITIES & CONTACT:
Our committee is always looking for opportunities to support interest in engineering and the HVAC industry. At the college level, we support HVAC-related student projects, establish mentoring relationships, and answer questions for students considering engineering paths and career options. At the K-12 level, we promote interest in the engineering field as a whole through classroom visits and introductory engineering activities.
