College Scholarship Application

Attention college students! Are you currently an engineering student planning a career in the Baltimore Area? Did you know that ASHRAE would like to invest in your education? Each year, the Baltimore Chapter of the American Society of Heating, Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE) offers scholarships to college students pursuing their Bachelor's Degree in an ASHRAE‑related field. Among other specific criteria, scholarship eligibility is limited to students residing in, or moving to, the Baltimore Chapter assigned area as a permanent resident (ASHRAE Region III, Chapter 025).

Last year the Baltimore Chapter was pleased to award scholarships ranging from $750 to $2,500, to college students successfully competing for these funds.

This year the Scholarship Committee is once again looking for the best and brightest students to apply for college scholarships. Applications will be accepted until February 28, 2026 and will be reviewed by the committee anonymously for award to students. To determine if you meet the eligibility requirements for scholarship consideration by the Baltimore Chapter, please review the following criteria, with primary requirements indicated with an asterisk (*) and other factors weighted for preference to better serve our communities:

  1. Applicant is pursuing a career in an ASHRAE-related engineering field.*
  2. Applicant is enrolled in an ABET accredited college program (or a program pre-approved by the Baltimore Chapter Board).*
  3. Applicant is residing in, or moving to, the Baltimore Chapter assigned area as a permanent resident.*
  4. Applicant has a high scholastic standing or grade average from the previous academic year.
  5. Applicant demonstrates a financial need.
  6. Applicant is currently working in the Heating, Ventilating, Air Conditioning, and Refrigeration (HVAC&R) field.
  7. Applicant is the direct relative of an ASHRAE Baltimore Chapter member.
  8. Applicant is a veteran with an Honorable Discharge or member of United States Armed Services.
  9. Applicant is a member of the Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC) community.

Points are awarded based on each applicant's demonstration of the above criteria. Criteria items 1 through 3 are required, and therefore weighted greater than items 4 through 9, although all criteria are important in the final consideration of awards.

College Scholarship Application:

Once you have determined you meet the eligibility criteria, you may download the application form and send it to the scholarship chairperson indicated in the form.

High School Design Challenge Scholarships

The Baltimore Chapter of the American Society of Heating, Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE) is pleased to offer scholarships to select high school students who participate in the ASHRAE Baltimore Chapter Student Design Challenge, an annual chapter event. Among other specific criteria, scholarship eligibility is limited to students who are on a course to enter a college or university to pursue their Bachelor’s Degree in an ASHRAE-related engineering field.

Following the Student Design Challenge, participants who are graduating seniors will be encouraged to apply for the chapter's scholarship. Applications will be reviewed anonymously by the ASHRAE Baltimore Scholarship Committee for award to students following the ASHRAE Baltimore Chapter meeting in May, themed "Student Night"

Applicant Minimum Eligibility Requirements

  1. Eligible applicants must intend to pursue undergraduate studies in the field of engineering.
  2. Applicant has been accepted/admitted** to a university or junior college that is either of the following: (1) Is accredited by one of the following two organizations: The Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET), The Partnership for Air Conditioning, Heating, Refrigeration Accreditation (PAHRA); (2) Is a host of a recognized ASHRAE student branch.
  3. Applicant has submitted an official (sealed) high school transcript.
  4. Applicant has submitted one letter of recommendation from a teacher or community leader.
  5. It is preferred, but not required, that applicant has participated in the annual ASHRAE Baltimore Student Design Competition (or is registered and intends to participate later this year).

Note for Criteria 2** The purpose is to establish the applicant's intent to attend a school with a qualified engineering program. If acceptance has not yet been established (usually with a formal acceptance letter), the applicant will not be disqualified if a college application has been submitted to the intended university or junior college, and this is indicated within the application.
